Description

The THOR Hammer SE-9 is a professional-grade headset microphone built around a Danish omnidirectional condenser capsule - the same capsule technology used in high-end broadcast and performance microphones. At just 8 grams without the cable connector, it is one of the lightest headset microphones available at this price point, which matters a great deal when someone is wearing it on stage for 30, 60, or 90 minutes at a stretch.

THOR designed the Hammer SE-9 specifically for voice clarity. Whether the speaker is a worship pastor, a keynote presenter, a theater performer, or a classroom teacher, the capsule has been tuned to faithfully reproduce both male and female voices with warmth and articulation. The frequency response stays smooth and flat through the critical midrange, with a gentle rise in the upper frequencies that helps voices cut through a mix without sounding harsh or processed.

The SE-9 boom measures 90mm (about 3.5 inches), which positions the capsule closer to the mouth for a more focused pickup and a stronger signal at the bodypack transmitter. The boom is flexible, so it can be shaped to sit consistently in the right position relative to the speaker's face. The cable is detachable and easy to replace, which is a practical advantage in high-use environments like churches or schools where microphones get heavy rotation and cables are often the first thing to wear out.

The single-ear design works well for most users, and a dual-ear wrap-around adapter is included for situations where extra security is needed - useful for active performers or anyone who moves around a lot on stage. A protective carrying case is also included.

Setup Tips

  • Position the capsule correctly: For best results, position the microphone capsule at the corner of the mouth, slightly off to the side. This placement reduces plosive sounds (the popping on P and B sounds) while still capturing a full, natural voice. Avoid pointing the capsule directly at the mouth.
  • Shape the boom before use: The boom is flexible and can be gently massaged into position. Take a moment before the event to shape it so the capsule sits consistently in the right spot. Once shaped, it should hold its position reliably through the event.
  • Use the dual-ear adapter for active performers: If the wearer is an actor, or anyone who moves vigorously on stage, clip on the included dual-ear wrap-around adapter. It adds a second anchor point that keeps the headset stable even during energetic movement.
  • Check your gain staging with an omnidirectional mic: Omnidirectional microphones pick up sound from all directions, which is great for natural sound but means they can also pick up more room noise or stage monitors than a directional mic would. Work with your sound engineer to set gain levels carefully and position stage monitors to minimize bleed into the mic.
  • Protect the detachable cable connection: The detachable cable is a useful feature, but the connection point should be handled with care. When connecting or disconnecting the cable, hold the connector body rather than pulling on the cable itself. This will extend the life of both the cable and the headset body.
