• Start with the headband at its smallest setting: When fitting the SH20 for the first time, collapse the headband down to its smallest size before putting it on. Hook the ear pieces just over the tops of both ears, hold the bottom of the ear pieces behind the earlobes, then tilt your head up and down to let the headband resize naturally to the wearer's head. This gives a more secure and comfortable fit than trying to adjust by hand alone.
• Position the capsule near the corner of the mouth, not directly in front: Placing the capsule directly in front of the mouth increases plosives and breath noise. Aim for the corner of the mouth at roughly one inch of distance. Gently shape the boom with smooth movements - avoid sharp bends or gripping the capsule itself, which can damage internal wiring or affect sensitivity.
• Use the ReEx boom to fine-tune reach before shaping: Before bending the boom into its final position, first slide the ReEx rear housing to extend or retract the boom length so the capsule is in roughly the right position. Then do your final shaping. This keeps you from over-bending the boom trying to compensate for incorrect length.
• Confirm your connector type matches your wireless transmitter before going live: The TA4F connector on this version of the SH20 fits many popular wireless bodypacks, but wiring pinouts can differ between manufacturers. Do a full soundcheck before the event, not just a quick plug-in test. Check gain levels at the console and adjust accordingly - do not rely on default gain settings when deploying a new mic for the first time.
• Store the mic in its case between uses and clean the windscreen regularly: After each use, wipe down the exterior of the mic with a soft dry cloth. If makeup or adhesive residue has built up, an alcohol wipe can be used carefully on non-capsule surfaces. The windscreen can be removed and washed in mild soap and water - just let it air dry completely before reattaching. Proper storage and cleaning extends the life of the mic significantly, especially in shared-use environments.
