To say that we've had a hard time knowing when we'll get certain video products from Blackmagic and Decimator is maybe the understatement of the year. There have been times where we're told that a product will ship in 4-6 weeks only to have it delivered two days later, and just the opposite that products should be in stock "any day now" only to be waiting several weeks or months. Similar stories have been the theme of our 2020-2022.
Thankfully, there are other lines that are becoming first choice since those products are more readily available, and at least equally functional. Here are a few to consider.
The Lumantek ez-MD+ HDMI/SDI Cross Converter with Audio Mux/Demux & Scaler (a mouthful, right?!) is a good replacement for most users considering the Decimator MD-HX. It converts HDMI to SDI and vice-versa, scales up/down from 480i to 1080P60, has audio embedding and de-embedding, audio delay and frame synchronization, among other things.
In place of some of the Blackmagic Designs Micro and Mini Converters, consider these three options from Lumantek. There are three models. The ez-HS+ accepts either HDMI or VGA (of all things) and converts and scales to SDI, one of the functions that the Decimator MD-HX is known for. The ez-HS and ez-SH are HDMI to SDI and SDI to HDMI converters respectively. At $99, the converters are well-built, have great picture quality and are a tremendous bargain, not to mention generally in stock for same day shipment.
